Prof. Lior Lowenstein

Specialist in gynecology and obstetrics, and pelvic floor rehabilitation surgery (Urogynecology)

 

Areas of expertise

Residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics, followed by a three-year fellowship in pelvic floor surgery at Loyola University Hospital in Chicago, one of the leading centers in the field in the United States. During his fellowship, he specialized in advanced surgical methods including robotic, laparoscopic, vaginal approach surgeries, Botox injections and pacemaker implants to improve bladder function.

Upon his return to Israel, Prof. Lowenstein established the urological service at Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa. As part of his role as head of the service, he implemented a variety of advanced surgical and medical methods for the treatment of pelvic floor problems. Currently, Prof. Lowenstein serves as the director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Division at the Galilee Medical Center, as the director of the Women's Health Center of the National Health Fund, and as the Northern District Adviser on Gynecology at the National Health Fund.

Professor Lowenstein has more than 180 publications in journals and chapters in medical books, and delivered lectures at more than 120 international conferences. As part of his academic activities, he serves as a supervisor for the final theses of medical and graduate students.

Areas of research: urological surgeries and improving the quality of life, the connection between the functioning of the nervous system and irritable bowel syndrome, and development of innovative networks for pelvic floor rehabilitation. The National Conference on Urology has honored his research papers as outstanding works.

As part of his activities to promote pelvic floor rehabilitation medicine, Prof. Lowenstein has served as a member of the National Committee for Urogynecology and Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation. Moreover, in the international medical community, he is a member of the American Urological Association, and the Education Committee of the European Society of Sexual Medicine.

Professor Lowenstein is a graduate of the Israeli Health Ministry's prestigious "Inbar" management program, and in addition, he has a master's degree in health systems management (MHA) from the University of Haifa and an MBA, specializing in health systems management, from Tel Aviv University.
