    Dr. Khetam Hussein

    Deputy Director of the Galilee Medical Center

    Dr. Khetam Hussein was born in 1974 in Rama village in the Galilee, and is currently a resident of Karmiel. She is married to Advocate Elkassem Husam and has two daughters. Dr. Hussein completed her medical studies in 2001 at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and did her specialization in internal medicine and infectious diseases at Rambam Health Care Campus (Rambam), in Haifa. At Rambam, she served as a senior physician in the Infectious Diseases Unit and later, she established and managed the hospital's Infection Control Unit.

    Between 2018 and 2020, Dr. Hussein completed a sub-specialization in infection control and hospital epidemiology from the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) on Infection Control training program. In addition, she is a member of professional committees of the ESCMID.

    During the corona pandemic, Dr. Hussein headed Rambam’s departments dedicated to treat COVID-19 patients.

    Moreover, since 2019 she has served as a consultant for Israel’s Ministry of Health, Division of Governmental Medical Centers, on infection prevention.

    In 2022, she completed her MBA studies at the Coller School of Management - Leon Recanati Graduate School of Business Administration at Tel Aviv University. She performed her internship in medical administration at Rambam.

    Dr. Hussein served as an assistant professor at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology Faculty of Medicine, and guided students in research.

    Dr. Hussein engages in research in the field of multi-drug resistant organisms, hospital-acquired infections and infection prevention, and over the years, she has published dozens of articles in leading international medical journals.

    In 2023, Dr. Hussein was appointed to the position of Deputy Director of the Galilee Medical Center.

    Dr. Hussein received the honor to light one of 12 torches at Israel's official 75th Independence Day ceremony in Jerusalem in April 2023, in light of her role as a pioneer in the medical field and in Israeli society.

    In 2023, Israel's Minister of Health appointed her as a member of the Health Ministry's Medicines Basket Committee.
